CHRODIS Platform Digital Library Editorial Policy

The editorial policy of the CHRODIS Platform aims at building trust in the information provided in the Digital Library of the CHRODIS Platform, support the Help Desk Manager decisions following the CHRODIS editorial principles and provide guidance to users in the submission of contents to the Digital Library.

The scope of this editorial policy is then limited to the Digital Library (DL) of the CHRODIS Platform.

The Digital Library is designed as an on-line repository of referenced material, and includes contents based on a brief description of an already published resource (see required metadata below) as well as the link to the digital source of the content. The contents are expected to be submitted by the users of the Platform, as to exchange knowledge within the scope of the JA-CHRODIS aims and goals (see http://www.chrodis.eu).

The submission of contents to the Digital Library of the CHRODIS Platform is only possible once the user submitting the content has read and agreed the CHRODIS Terms of use and the Digital Library Editorial Policy and has declared, after consideration, that there are no potential conflicts of interest.

Content submission does not guarantee publication on the Digital Library. The Help Desk manager, acting as DL editor, is responsible of the supervision of any content submitted to the DL and, therefore has the prerogative to determine whether it should be approved for publication considering the editorial principles. Although there is no time limit from content submission to content publication in case of acceptance, the Help Desk manager endeavours to supervise any content within seven business days after its submission.

Publication policy: editorial principles

The publication of any content should accomplish all the following editorial principles:

Attribution

All content is required to be submitted by registered users of the CHRODIS Platform, thus considering the user as the CHRODIS Author of the content, whether or not being the author of the referred resources. The user has the obligation of faithfully listing all the authors and contributors of the content and of making sure its publication is permitted by its copyright policy. The CHRODIS Authors, CHRODIS Author’s organizations and contributors are publicly displayed along the description of the content.

The CHRODIS Platform Editor (Help Desk Manager) is not in a position to investigate or adjudicate authorship disputes before or after publication. Such disagreement, if it cannot be resolved amongst authors, should be brought up to the relevant institutional authority.

The primary affiliation for each author should be the institution where the majority of the work was done. The CHRODIS Platform remains neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in published content and institutional affiliations. Any claim will result in cancelling the content under dispute until its resolution.

Language

All content must be submitted in English, although it could link to resources in any other language.

Type of content

The type of the content is defined by the type of material which the content links to, as i) audio; ii) document; iii) image; iv) video; v) web page, and vi) web tool (i.e. web applications or other tools).

Metadata

All required fields describing a new content should be correctly filled in before the content is saved and submitted to the Digital Library. Required fields include information on the a) title, b) area of interest, c) condition, d) link, e) summary (abstract), f) keywords, g) authors, h) country, i) language, j) coverage, k) type of funding, l) sources of funding, and m) type of content. Other metadata content includes the contributors, organizations of the authors and contributors and the year of publication.

Links

Although the CHRODIS Platform has processes in place to ensure that links published on the Digital Library directing the user to third party content function properly, CHRODIS Platform administrators are not responsible for the availability or content of the on-line resources or websites linked within the contents, nor for any outputs available from them. Any such link should not be seen as an endorsement by JA-CHRODIS or JA-CHRODIS funding entities of such websites, or any of the outputs contained on them.

The Help Desk reserves the prerogative to terminate any inaccurate link at any time without notice and at Help Desk sole and absolute discretion.

No Medical Advice

The main aim of the CHRODIS Platform is to facilitate the exchange of practices across Europe. It does not intend by any mean to provide medical advice or specific health information to individuals or populations.

No Advertisement

The CHRODIS Platform does not display commercial content. It is, therefore, forbidden to submit or publish any commercial advertisement whether in the form of content, banners or links.

No inappropriate content

Any content deemed to be inappropriate, (i.e., offensive, not respectful with the basic principles of bioethics and individual rights, discriminatory, or a subterfuge for the advertisement of a specific product, device or any commercial initiative) will be rejected upon detection.

Privacy

Any content containing any kind of personal information on individuals or patients will be immediately rejected upon revision.

Justifiability

All contents are required to include a valid url link to their on-line source; thus, all the contents in the DL merely are records referencing to the linked original sources.

Financial disclosure

All contents are required to describe the type and source of funding. It is not possible to submit Content to the Digital Library without filling in the description of the type and source of funding.

Potential conflicts of interest

Additionally, prior to enter the submission form, the users are required to explicitly confirm the absence of any relationships and circumstances that may reasonably be expected to impair the objectivity of the content they are going to submit.

Clarity of content

The Editor reserves the right to edit, cancel, reject or delete any content regarding issues with the clarity of content, namely but not exclusively: a) unclear content; b) bad style or spelling; c) ROT content: Redundant, Outdated or Trivial); d) inadequate capitalization; e) use of symbols; and f) poor image or video quality.
